Fall is upon us! You may be wondering what are some things you can do with your team to add some fun to the office or for team building. As an office manager you may responsible for planning or bringing ideas to the table to for such events. All eyes will be on you, the office manager, to have some great ideas that are budget friendly, fun, morale boosting and most importantly won't bore the socks off your team. No pressure right?
Fun with Food
Everyone loves food and most people will engage in an activity that involves food. Your team is no different. The fall offers so many fun ways to host a team event centered around something we all have in common: eating. Here are a few ideas to use this commonality to have some fun and enjoy good food with your team this fall.
1. Have a baking contest.
First off, sweets delight everyone from kids to adults. So having a baking contest is an easy win for fun and injecting some excitement into the office. Not to mention it can appeal to the competitive nature of some team members. For the fall, the contest could center around typical fall desserts or flavors like pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie or chocolate cake. To encourage more people to show off their best baking skills and adding some variety to the contest sampling, consider having multiple categories. For example have entries for pumpkin pies and another for pound cakes, ect. Reward your winner with a certificate or small trophy, or other prize.
2. Host a bake sale for charity.
While we're talking about sweets, hosting a charity bake sale is not only a great way to have some fun but can help the community also. This would be good option to choose if your team isn't necessarily into baking or very competitive. Baked goods could be made by employees or purchased and donated to the bake sale. Or the company could purchase some yummy baked goods from a local bakery or grocery store. Either way the items are obtained they can be sold to the team at reasonable prices or sold pay what you want (employees pay whatever they want for the treats). The proceeds could then donated to a charity that the employees have chosen to support. The company could even match the proceeds to encourage employees to make generous donations.
3. Have a chili cook-off.
Fall is just made for chili. As the weather cools down a warm yummy bowl of chili is the ideal comfort food meal. Yet, even with chili being a common meal, everyone is always searching for the best recipe or wanting to show off their secret recipe. A chili cook off is a fun way to invite the cooks on your team to compete to see who really has the best recipe. And for those who don't cook, it's a great opportunity to wear stretchy pants to work and fill up on some good food. Reward your winner with a certification, trophy or other small prize. Fall was so much as a kid. There were so many things to look forward too. Well, you can tap into that nostalgia and enjoy some those same activities as adults.
4. Have an adult trick or treating day.
Kids love trick or treating, but as adults it's not acceptable to go to door to door asking for candy. So why not have an adult trick or treating day at the office? It's easy to setup with the help of management. One way to pull this off is to have managers pass out candy when employees come by their office. You can even let employees wear costumes on this day to make it even more festive and fun.
5. Let you team wear costumes to work.
Costumes can be so much fun. Pick a day where employees can come to work dressed in costume. The fun is soon to start as everyone reacts to the costumes of their co-workers. Boost the fun quotient in a few easy ways:

Adult coloring books are very popular these days. Tap into that popularity by hosting a coloring contest. You can find some fall themed adult coloring sheets online. Print them out and let your employees get creative. The finished projects could be displayed in the office in places where employees gather, like the break room.
7. Have an outdoor game day.
Pick a time either on a weekend or give your employees a day or half day off for a game day. This idea is perfect if you have a lot of employees that enjoy sports. For those who don't like physical activity, they can participate by keeping score or cheering on the players. Try to include games for all fitness levels and that are easy to learn. For outdoor games that don't require lots of physical exertion, consider Corn Hole or Horse Shoes. Good games to consider include kick ball, flag foot ball or soft ball. 8. Have a caramel apple making bar.
This is a simple but fun idea that can be done on a small budget too. In addition to apples, You'll need a stove, hot plate or crock pot to melt the caramel. Select a variety of toppings such as nuts, marshmallows, candy and sprinkles. Also provide treat bags and ties so that your team can wrap up their caramel apple creations to take home.
9. Host a paint outing
Paint studios are popping up everywhere. Why not get together with your team and create some art? The best part is that all you have to do is pay and show up. Do something together

10. Train for and complete a 5k
Races are by nature fun events. If your team has some runners or would be runners consider completing a 5k race together. Fall is an ideal time to do a 5k because the weather is usually comfortable and it's pleasant to be outside. Even if everyone doesn't want to run, they can walk or volunteer on race day.
11. Serve lunch at a homeless shelter.
Shelters get overwhelmed with the number of people who want to volunteer during November and December. Shelters really need help in the earlier months of fall like September or October, so if you can volunteer in the early fall that would be a great help. Volunteering is a great way to have a team outing, bond and make a difference in the community.
12. Race through corn maze.
Corn mazes are so much fun. Test your navigational and trivia skills to see who can escape the maze fastest. You can work together all as one team or in small groups. Corn mazes usually have pretty affordable entry rates. There is also always a discount coupon on sites like Groupon or Living Social.
13. Host a craft fair.
Have crafty people on your team? Then a craft fair will be a popular event where they can show off their creations while maybe making some extra pocket change. Just make sure to give plenty of notice so your crafty employees have ample time to prepare their crafts.
14. Have a pumpkin carving contest
Fall wouldn't be complete without pumpkins. Host a pumpkin carving or decorating contest to get into the fall spirit. An added bonus is that you use the pumpkins decorated by employees to decorate the office for fall.
